2011 Preseason All-SEC Team

Two SEC West schools dominate the TSJ preseason All-SEC team. Arkansas sports 13 players (Joe Adams counted twice for WR and PR) on the two deep roster while Alabama placed 12. The Georgia Bulldogs were also well represented with eight players making an appearance on the preseason list.

The Hogs should be loaded on offense as five of their representatives are offensive skill players. Running back Knile Davis is getting Heisman publicity. The Razorbacks may own the best wide receiving corps in the nation with three receivers making the preseason two deep list.

Alabama’s strength looks again to be a rock-solid defense. The Crimson Tide are the only SEC team that can boast at least two players on the preseason two deep All-SEC squad at every level on defense. The running game should be strong again for the Tide as Trent Richardson made the first team as a tailback and will work behind three preseason first team All-SEC offensive linemen.

Don't think Damien Jackson (DB-Ole Miss) get enoguh credit. He's going to surprise a lot of Bama lovers voters.

This is a tough year to pick preseason teams, pretty good list. I'd say the only glaring miss is punter Tyler Campbell from Ole Miss. He was the NCAA punting champion last season with a 46.37-yard average, including 19 punts over 50 yards and five punts of 60 or more yards, including a season-long kick of 69 yards. He's far and away the best punter in the SEC and possibly the nation.

Wow, the SEC must be hard-up for quarterbacks this year if 67 career completions and a 7-7 td-int ratio gets you 2nd team. I can't believe that the QB cupboard is that bare down south.

The other option was Tyler Bray or Chris Relf. If you believe that Bray or Relf will out-perform anyone on this quarterback list, then by all means....believe away.

Wilson was also second team on Phil Steele's all-SEC team. The quarterback position is down in the SEC this year. And not much homerism. Most of the lists I have seen at least 11 Hogs on the two-deep. The skill position players for the Hogs can pile up the numbers pretty quickly.

Yeah, I think its more a reflection of the state of SEC quarterbacking (at least on paper, who knows how good the new BAMA/AUB Qbs will be)

I mean, the SEC is obv. superior to the Big 10 overall, but you could make an argument that Wilson would be ranked 6th or 7th in the big 10 preseason behind Nathan Scheelhaase, Denard Robinson, Kirk Cousins, Dan Persa, Terrelle Pryor and Taylor Martinez.

Yeah, that's probably right. Who knows how Pryor would get voted having to miss at least 5 games, but Tyler Wilson would be back in the middle of the pack for the Big 10 this year because of the experience and quality of guys coming back. But in the SEC, you have Stephen Garcia who may not even play. You have Jordan Jefferson who many expect to be benched in favor of Mettenberger. You have the quarterback disaster area known as Ole Miss. Vandy is...Vandy. Kentucky is still Kentucky. I don't think anyone would have Brantley on their two deep after his performance last year at Florida. But what the SEC lacks in quarterbacks, they come back with running backs in spades.

You have to account for Ben's "homer factor" Dan ;)

I had a lot of Horns on my All Big 12 team
