Tutorial on how to submit content
Step 1: Beginning Steps
a.) Log in on the front end (the main site) http://www.thesportsjury.com
b.) Click "Submit article"
Step 2: Writing the article
a.) Select a title for the story. Make sure the title contains the primary topic of your article. Example: If your story was about Ohio State's loss to Wisconsin in basketball, you would possibly title it "Buckeyes lose to Badgers".
b.) Write out your story in its entirety. Make sure the first paragraph contains the key parts of your story. Example: If your story is about Ted Thompson's 2008 decision to go with Aaron Rodger's over Brett Favre, make sure you mention Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Ted Thompson & Green Bay Packers in your first paragraph. This is to ensure that google news properly indexes your article
Step 3: Adding pictures to your article
a.) Click the image button
b.) Goto the corresponding year / month folder, then click the upload tab.
c.) Find the relevant picture you wish to use in the story on your hard drive. Then upload it
d.) Now locate the file in the media manager. Make sure the width Dimension is no larger than 250
e.) If you want your picture to align towards the left, configure the alignment / margin the following
If you want your picture to align towards the right, configure the alignment / margin the following
f.) After you have the alignment the way you want, click insert. Then click your image, and then click the image caption button.
g.) In the text area, please cite the photographer or owner of the photograph. IE, if you saved the photo from an associated press website, make sure you cite: Associated Press.
h.) Un-click "equal margins", and follow the same steps as the image margin. If the picture is aligned to the left, right: 10, Bottom 3. If the picture is aligned to the right, Bottom 3, left 10. Click insert
NO MORE THAN 2 PICTURES PER ARTICLE. If there are more than 2 pictures, they will be summarily deleted by the publishing administrator.
Step 4: Categorizing your article
I realize that the sections / categories are in a mess. But we'll just have to make due with that until the new website is created. In the mean time, here are the publishable section / categories.
If your article is about NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, Boxing and Soccer
Section: Pro Sports (Then the relevant category)
If your article is about College sports
Section: Collegiate Sports (Then the relevant category)
If your article is about MMA
Section: MMA, Category: MMA
If your article is about Boxing
Section: News, Category: Boxing
If your article is about multiple sports, satire, straight opinion, or something that doesn't fall under any of the aforementioned section / categories
Section: News, Category: Opinion
Please do not select yes for "Publish", or "Show on front page". All articles must be reviewed by a publishing administrator before published. All articles are automatically shown on the front page for (at least) a brief period.
Step 5: Meta data
Description: Make sure you give a brief description of your article in the "Description" text area. The description should be about 50-100 words briefly outlining what your article is about.
Keywords: Make sure you insert the keywords of your article. If your article is about Ted Thompson's 2008 decision to let Brett Favre go, and instead go with Aaron Rodgers, then the keywords you would use are:
Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Ted Thompson, Green Bay Packers, NFL, NFC, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets
Make sure you use a comma after every keyword.
Step 6: Finishing up
After you have completed all of the aforementioned steps, just take a few minutes to review your article to make sure you have completed everything as required, then simply scroll back up and click "Save". Your article will be published whenever an administrator has time to review the article to make sure it's formatted correctly (the Administrator will rarely, if ever, edit your article in a grammar/spelling aspect).
